Classes resume November 6th
The Portrait of a Tiger trait for November is Self-Disciplined. Galion Tigers are self-disciplined, remaining ambitious and driven toward their goals. By engaging in positive and proactive behaviors, Galion Tigers demonstrate their ability to persevere through challenges and pursue a sound moral compass. Being self-disciplined allows our Tigers to set and achieve goals in and out of the classroom. Selected students and staff members who demonstrate this trait will be recognized at the November 19th Board of Education meeting. The meeting will be held at 6:30 in the Galion Middle School Media Center.

At Galion City Schools, we believe in using restorative practices; strategies used to foster a supportive environment in our schools. Instead of traditional disciplinary methods that often involve punishment, restorative practices emphasize building relationships, accountability, restoration, and empowerment. These practices benefit students by improving staff and student relationships, enhancing their emotional skills, and creating a better school climate. At Galion City Schools, we believe in using restorative circles, affective statements, and affective questions in our classrooms and throughout the district. In the weeks ahead we will be sharing information about restorative practices and how we are using it in our classrooms to build a strong community.

October is Dyslexia Awareness Month and today October 8th is International Dyslexia Day. In keeping in line with Ohio law, Galion teachers have been receiving specialized training to better support students with dyslexia. This is a crucial step in ensuring every child gets the help they need to succeed. There are many myths surrounding dyslexia, like the idea that it’s tied to vision problems and reversing letters. In reality, dyslexia is a common learning difference that affects the way the brain processes language. Throughout the remainder of the month, we will share more information about dyslexia to help increase awareness and help separate myths from facts.
